Bad Times Made Better--Or at Least Useful
If I told you I had a tip that would make the most of the bad times and
make the good even better, would you be interested? I had a feeling you
would, so I'll continue.
It sounds counterintuitive: focus on how bad you feel to better enjoy the
good times? As odd as it sounds, it might just work with you.
Too often we suffer from short-term memory loss. Something terrible
happens--an unexpected bill, a minor car accident, a rude customer--and we
wish we could go back in time. "If I could just blink this problem out of
existence, then I would be happy."
And, when that problem goes away, what do we do? We find something else to
worry about.
I don't think most people can rid themselves completely of this habit;
some seem wired to worry. But I know that whoever you are, you can make
the most of troubling times.
When something goes awry in your life, get in tune with how it makes you
feel. I don't want you to make matters worse or overwhelm yourself;
instead, I want you to experience what you're going through. Don't let
yourself forget how it feels.
Then, when things get back to normal, you'll realize how lucky you are.
You won't take the status quo for granted, which means you'll find happiness
in the everyday whereas other people will still be waiting for that "somewhere
out there."
By getting in touch with the pain of your problems, you'll get value from
trouble and be ready to enjoy normalcy like never before.
