The Smallest of Pieces
This article can only emerge one keystroke at a time. There's relief in that
fact, as well as a reason for hope.
Everything you want to do in your life can only happen one step at a time. I'm
not saying that it should or often does--it can't be any other way. You can't
blink an afternoon lunch into existence; it has to be built. You can't snap your
fingers and have an entire book read; it has to be digested one page at a time.
What am I getting at? No matter what you want, it can only be tackled one small
step at a time. Getting in shape happens one healthy meal or one jog at a time
(even those things can be broken down into smaller pieces). Writing your
dissertation happens one thought noted or one fact researched at a time.
This means that you only have to take slivers of action to get what you want.
Those acts will combine like drops of water to a tidal wave, starting small but
merging into something bigger.
When you think about the things you want to do in your life, mentally break them
into bits and pieces. Don't be overwhelmed by the finished product. Although you
can't see the seams, even the greatest achievements were constructed with
countless smaller parts.
